Content Research: Autumn Candle Keywords for 2024

Autumn is almost here, and we thought you might want to do some content calendar planning ahead of time. We do product research, keyword research, and then plan our content calendars for the season. We stay pretty true to the season for our autumn content – lavender and gardenia are out, pumpkin spice and cashmere/flannel scents are in.

If you’re in the home decor or lifestyle niche, you likely blog, write, and film content about candles. While we’re not certain if most people would buy a candle they haven’t smelled, you might have followers who are already familiar with the candle brand you’re showing. Plus, devoted followers might trust your judgement and your written or spoken descriptions of a candle’s fragrance and why you enjoy it.

This keyword research will help you find candle brands you (and other influencers) haven’t yet heard of. Do due diligence using your product research tool of choice to see if you can find out sales frequencies and stats on each candle brand or product.

Combine colors with fragrance names for a more unique take on product keyword research. For example: white pumpkin, black cranberry, bronzed butterscotch, etc. Search for flavors and food ingredients as well as scents: caramel pumpkin, maple cider, bourbon apple, etc. Use keywords together, “spiced bourbon” and “mulled apple” for example. Search for keywords that evoke warmth (things like rum, not freesia; cardamom, not lemongrass). Put dessert words together with fragrances to find more candle combinations: maple apple cider doughnut, pumpkin spice cake, etc. There are several crossover scents and flavors with the Christmas holiday season: chocolate, cinnamon and cranberry. Peppermint and gingerbread, however, are usually squarely in the Christmas and winter holiday area.

You’ll find lots of wood related words regarding candles this season: cedar, oak, etc. but stay away from pine, Frasier fir and other Christmas-themed keywords that are better for the following season. Similarly, avoid citrus scents – those are better for Winter and Spring content.

You can also look for lifestyle candle names (rather than fragrances) which pop up this time of year: Rainstorm, Library, Bookstore, Cozy Autumn, Autumn Leaves, Walk in the Woods, etc. Speaking of “cozy,” spell it correctly for US audiences or “cosy” for UK audiences. Try “cozy” in front of candle fragrance names: cozy apple cider, cozy bourbon caramel, etc. Try adding “Farmhouse” to some of your keyword queries. “Farmhouse Pumpkin,” “Farmhouse Maple Cider” etcetera. Also see if “cottagecore” can be added to discover candle names.
